Martyr Havaldar Amrik Singh cremated with full state honours

Hamirpur/Una (HP), Jan 16 (UNI) Mortal remains of Havaldar Amrik Singh of Gannu Mandwal village of Una district who was killed along with two others in an accident in Jammu and Kashmir six days ago were consigned to flames with full state honours at his village crematorium Monday morning. The body of the martyr was brought Monday morning from Chandigarh and was taken to her home where after performing religious formalities, the body was taken to the crematorium by the Jawans of Indian army and local village. The body of the martyr was not airlifted from the accident site due to bad weather for the first four days. However, once lifted it was taken to Srinagar and from there Jammu on its onward journey to his village for performing last rites. At home, mother, father, wife and child were weeping badly and local people were trying to console them. The situation was beyond control as the body reached them after six days and all were upset since they got the news of the death of their bread earner. Amid slogans of Havaldar Amrik Singh amar rahe, Abhinav, the twelve years old son and his uncles lit the pyre in the presence of hundreds of locals and others. Leaders of various political parties and officers of district administration were also present at the crematorium. Earlier, a contingent of 14th Dogra regiment in which the martyr was serving reversed their arms and thereafter fired in the air to salute the body. Pradhan of local gram panchayat, Bhupinder Singh said the deceased was a braveheart and people friendly. He said in his death, the local people had lost a good friend.
